Remembering 228 Vigil

More than twenty Harvard affiliates gathered in the Harvard Science Center Plaza on the evening of March 2nd, 2024 to honor the 28,000+ lives lost in Taiwan’s 228 Massacre. Harvard and Boston community members stood in the rain to commemorate the victims with speeches, candles, and photographs of the victims. Coalition Co-Director Cosette Wu opened the vigil with the story of her great-grandfather, who was killed in the 228 Massacre, and other vigil attendees shared reflections during the open mic session. Taiwanese author of “The Third Son” and Harvard College alum Julie Wu said she was happy to see this vigil take place at Harvard, as such a commemoration seemed impossible back when she was a student at Harvard.
